Jan 28, 2026: Janelle VanderKelen (digital art and animation) Artist Lecture at Canady Creative Arts Center
Janelle VanderKelen’s films imagine alternative acts of relation between imperfect bodies (human, vegetal, geological, or otherwise). Her experimental 16mm shorts use stop-motion and time-lapse animation to make the agency and movement of plants visible for human audiences. Recent films exhibited in her solo exhibition at the Paul Mesaros Gallery focus on possible interspecies language models and speculate how plants might approach communicating with humans (who are actually far more sensorially limited).
This is a free, non-ticketed event.
VanderKelen’s work will be on display in the Paul Mesaros Gallery in the WVU Canady Creative Arts Center January 28 – February 27, 2025.
