We are honored to host this literary and artistic event which will delve into the eerie and enchanting world of Appalachian folklore.

On Saturday, December 21, at 5 p.m., join Olivia Sizemore, one half of the Appalachian Folklore Collection team from Leslie County, Kentucky, for a reading and discussion of selections from the recently published book Haint Country: Dark Folktales from the Hills and Holler (University Press of Kentucky).

Haint Country is a mesmerizing collection of first-person “Haint and booger tales” from Southeastern Kentucky, steeped in the oral traditions and ghostly legends of the Appalachian region. Illustrated in the haunting style reminiscent of Stephen Gammell’s work in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, the book brings to life the lore that has captivated generations.

The original watercolor paintings that illustrate Haint Country are currently on display in MAC’s Davis Gallery. These works of art will remain on exhibit until the end of December, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the atmospheric and eerie world depicted in the book.
